Philly Love Notes

1. Describe the project a STAKE Grant would help you accomplish (100 words):
Philly Love Notes is a website dedicated to showcasing the best of Philadelphia in the words of its residents and those who may have once lived here. It is a simple site that has not had a major update or redesign since it started in earnest more than two years ago. Because of my limited Wordpress knowledge, the site is awkward, hard to navigate, and one of it’s best features, the map, is almost useless. The grant would help me realize a new look and feel for the site, which would help reinvigorate my work with the project.

2. How will you use the grant toward the realization of your project? $800 is your imaginary budget (50 words):
Website redesign

3. A little about yourself and what led you to your current creative goals. This may include a previous project of yours, ways it both succeeded and failed (this can be entirely unrelated to your proposal) (100 words):
I have been working on Philly Love Notes for more than two years because I believe the city needs a source of complete positivity. I think people also need an opportunity to express why and how they are connected to their hometown. The project, which currently has 222 love notes published has led to the development of #whyilovephilly parties and Philadelphia map papercutting. The entire project is self funded, and relies on the kindness of love note contributors.

4. Why is this project important? How will it benefit the community? (100 words):
Philly Love Notes remains one of the only sites in Philadelphia that celebrates the city in the words of the residents themselves. It is a platform for people to learn about the city and express why they love it here. The website has helped shine a continuous positive light, which helps to galvanize the community to make their city better. A much-needed refresher will allow me to communicate these messages more clearly and will help reinvigorate the site and all the work that’s necessary for it to function.
